What are the differences between CAT 5 and CAT 5e cables?

CAT 5 supports Ethernet and Fast Ethernet (speeds up to 100 Mbps) while CAT 5e supports Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet. CAT 5e has more shielding that CAT 5 which results in less electrical interference and cross talk.

What are the differences between CAT 5e and CAT 6 cables?

A Cat 5e cable can run near or at gigabit speeds, but it’s not gigabit “certified". On the other hand, Cat 6 cable is manufactured specifically to operate at gigabit speed.
